Look Good, Feel Good

You don’t have to be all muscles like Ade Ray, have fabulous black tresses like girls in shampoo commercials or Pond’s girl light complexion to catch the eye of guy/gal you have a crush on. However, good grooming is important if you want your heartthrob to notice you. Good grooming basically means all the things that you do to make your appearance neat and attractive, little things that you tend to neglect, but which will actually make you look and feel good. Guys and girls, do try these at home.

THE TOOTH-AND-NAIL FIGHT

· A dazzling smile means clean white teeth. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, or better yet, after every meal. Quit smoking; it stains your teeth.

· Keep your nails clean and dry so bacteria and other infectious organisms don’t collect, particularly if you wear artificial nails. Clip them regularly.

· Don’t bite your nails. It’s a sure way to transfer infectious organism from the fingers to the mouth and vice versa. It can also damage the skin surrounding the fingers, allowing infections to occur and spread. To stop your nail-biting habit, try chewing gum; it keeps your mouth busy.

HAIR DOS, HAIR DON’TS

No need to invest on hair revitalizing shampoos. You can get awesome hair just by eating right! A balanced, nutritious diet gives you healthy hair as well as a healthy body.

· Water makes up one-fourth of the weight of a strand of hair and it makes hair supple, so drink at least eight to ten glasses of water daily. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. If you’re thirsty, it means your body has lost more water than it should have.

· Protein is the building block of hair, so include lots and losts of protein in your diet.

· Increase your iron intake by eating red meat and dark green vegetables. Adequate iron intake fixes your brittle hair.

· Losing hair? It means your hair needs more zinc, which builds hair protein to prevent hair loss. Meat and seafood are the foods highest in zinc.

· Who needs hair dye and fake color? You can optimize your natural color with a diet containing plenty of copper. Shelfish, liver, fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds and meat are all high in copper.

· Vitamin A gives you a healthy scalp (which means no dandruff), while vitamins B and C makes your hair more supple and reduces split ends.

Don’t forget to wash your hair often, especially if you’re the active type.

SKIN DEEP

· Wash your face twice a day (no more) with warm water and a mild soap.

· Don’t pop pimples. It leaves scars on your face.

· Just like it “Gets the Red Out” of eyes, Visine (yes, the eye drop solution) can also be used for your big red pimples. Just apply some drops on your zits before you go to bed, and your face will look better in the morning.

· A daily body rub is recommended. Just soak a washcloth in warm water and rub your skin vigorously. It is relaxing and exfoliates and refreshes your skin.

BODY IMAGE

· Don’t slump or sluch. It gives the impression that you are a lazy person.

· Walk with your chin up and show your self-confidence.

· Exercise, exercise, exercise! (What else is new?) Exercising doesn’t have to hurt, and you don’t have to set aside special time for it.

· Sweating can cause body odor. If you have this problem, make sure you change clothes often. You can use an anti-perspirant with deodorant to minimize body odor.

A LOOK INTO YOUR EYES

· Staying up late, staring too long at the computer screen, or being exposed to too much hair pollution can cause red eyes. One way to relieve bloodshot eyes is of course by making an early appoinment with your bed. You can also use some eye drops to whiten the whites.

· Give those tired eyes a break. After working (or playing) on your computer, put slices of cucumber over your eyelids then lie back and relax.

· Luscious lashes, anyone? Get an ice cube from the fridge and use it like mascara on your eyelashes. It will give your eyelashes that natural thick look.

FASHION

· It would be difficult for most of us to keep up with latest in fashion. But your don’t need to wear clothes out of fashion magazines to look attractive. Just choose the styles and colors that are suitable for your body shape and personality.

· Learn how to mix and match. A canary yellow t-shirt definitely doesn’t go with a purple skirt.

FIT FEET

· Change socks often and stick with natural fibers like cotton.

· Use inserts (additional soles inside your shoes) that contain activated charcoal, which can absorb wetness and odor.

· Clean your feet thoroughly daily.

· Soak your fet in a mixture of half warm water, half lemon juice. It removes odor and leaves your feet smooth. (Volume 5 No. 49 C’nS)
